Dear Mountie
How can you forget a phone number?
Broken Hearted Girl
Dear Broken Hearted Girl
When the brain accumulates new information, eventually the amount of data gets too big to hold. To allow for new information it has to forget information which has not hitherto been in use.
If you were asked to remember a phone number, and then a short time afterwards learned the results of the latest football game, or caught the refrain of a popular schlager on the radio, the unused phone number would pop straight out to make way for the new information.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t forget only unimportant information.
- Au Contraire, it seems like the important stuff gets forgotten, but the unimportant trivia stays with you for a long long time.
Yours Truly
